What happens if we don't sleep?

Several studies carried out in recent years show that not sleeping enough or sleeping poorly increases the risk of suffering from various health problems such as heart disease, high blood pressure, kidney problems, diabetes, weight gain, stroke, among others.

Therefore, it can be clearly deduced that sleep is highly important for health. If we deprive ourselves of it, we can feel extremely tired or not perform as expected both in the workplace and in everyday life in general, we do not think clearly, nor do we react well, all of which can lead to placing ourselves at risk, deciding something inappropriately, being irritated, relating badly or falling into depression or anxiety, also affecting the release of hormones that create muscle mass, fight infections and repair cells.

So you wonder how to avoid these effects?

In the first place, you could take certain measures such as ensuring that you guarantee the necessary hours for your rest, creating the habit of going to rest and waking up at the same time, avoiding substances such as nicotine and caffeine, exercising, not eating at high hours at night or before bed, not having distractions at bedtime, such as alarms, lights, telephone or television. However, it is recommended that, if you still can't sleep, getting up and doing something that relaxes you will most likely help you. If sleep difficulties persist, it is best to consult a doctor to discuss the most viable options.
